East Coast Swing

Also known as The Lindy, Jive, Jitterbug.  Written in cut time (2/2)

Count: slow-slow-quick-quick.

  1. Basic: Promenade position, one (LF left), two (RF right), rock-step (RS) .

  2. Throw-out with Lady Turn: after RS, push the lady away with your right hand.  Bring hand across her face to make her turn counter-clock wise.  Man can walk across and switch places, or stay in place.

  3. Head Slider: two hand hold, on RS lift both arms: the left hand goes over your own head, to touch the back of your neck, next to your right shoulder.  Then let go of your partner's hand, so it can slide over your right arm, until you arm holding right hand to right hand (lady's moves are symmetrical).  Now you are in the cross-hand position, starter of many moves.

  4. Shoulder touch: from the cross-hand position, touch lady's right shoulder with left hand.  Then lady touches.  Repeat 6 times, while walking and rotating counter-clock wise.  To end, turn lady counter-clock wise, RS.

  5. Man's Stomach Turn: from the cross-hand position, walk forward into the hands, turning counter-clock wise and changing hands behind your back.

  6. Natural turn: drop right hand, lift left as lady turns clockwise.

  7. Reverse turn: drop right hand, lift left as lady turns counter-clockwise.

  8. She-go, He-go: after lady's natural turn, the man turns too.

  9. Spanish Arms: turns to either side, lifting one arm and stopping without finishing the turn (flamenco position.)

  10. Spanish Arms Back-to-Back Combination: from Spanish Arms, drop down arms so you are facing each other but side to side, right arm straight, left arm bent bent behind you back (lady: symmetrical position).  Lift both arms as you slide back to back, then unwind the lady.

  11. Cuddle: 2 hand hold, on RS, put LF straight back (instead of to the right), in break position, separating from lady.  Then bring her in, hand across her face, turning her into the right cuddle position (do not let go of the hands.)  Do RS together, unwind.

  12. Cuddle Back-to-Back Combination: cuddle, unwind lady so you are side to side but facing each other (very fast move - you need to help the lady with a push), slide back to back, turn back lady.

  13. Left Cuddle: break, push, but this time put right hand across her face to turn her clock-wise into left cuddle.

  14. The Mooch: instead of the RS, take 2 steps back (to the right.)  Then quick up LF, then RF, face each other, quick again LF, RF, between each other's legs, RS.

  15. Double Mooch: after a single, instead of RS, push LF inside across and to the right dropping the right hand, quick LF, quick RF, face each other again, quick LF, quick RF, RS.

  16. Back to back: push LF across and to the right dropping the right hand, back to back, hold both hands.  Double quick in the air with LF, undo, RS.

  17. Lindy Turn: LF left (S), RF left, crossing behind (Q) and rotation clock-wise, LF separating the cross, to the left (Q), bring RF together with LF (S), RS.  Lady: crosses in front one beat after man does.  (Easy to do after one hand RS).  Can be double: 2 crosses instead of one (Q-Q, Q-Q).  At the end, you should have done a full rotation.

  18. Promenade Swivels: in Ballroom Position: slow, slow, quick-quick-quick-quick, RS.  The lady is swiveled with the right hand as the man chasses sideways.

  19. Tuck A: on 1st slow, pull left arm and push lady into natural turn.  Catch her with left, rock step.  Variation: do not let go of the hand.  Note, to start, bring LF a little forward (instead of left, and tap as you pull back on the left hand, to wind up for the turn.)

  20. Tuck B (American Spin): switch hands, rock back to get momentum, push her for a natural turn.

  21. Heel Pops: 2 hand hold, palms facing each other (stop signs),  Lean on both heels at once, lifting the toes off the floor.  Repeat.

  22. Toe-Heel-Crosses: stop sign hands, start with LF, touch toes next to the RF toes (Q), then touch heel (Q), then cross LF in front to rest next to RF.  Repeat toe-heel-cross with RF.  Repeat the whole thing.

  23. One Hand Skates: one hand hold, rotate wrist counter-clockwise as you move LF left on a skating motion (S).  Rotate wrist clockwise as you skate with RF to the right (S).  Repeat 4 times (Q-Q-Q-Q).  Repeat the whole thing.

  24. Swinging Touch Steps: in Ballroom Position: LF touch diagonal left as you swing your body left, LF step back, RF touch diagonal right, RF step back.  Repeat, RS.  (Lady does the same, so legs alternate - outside, inside.)
